Mr. Zhang Yan is a founding partner of B.D.L.International Law Firm (Nanning)  and Secretary of the Party Branch of the Law Firm. He graduated from the Department of International Economic Law at China University of Political Science and Law and obtained his lawyer qualification in 1994.

Professional Experience

From 1994 to 1996, Mr. Zhang Yan worked at the Beihai Municipal Bureau of Justice. From 1996 to 1999, he served as a full-time lawyer at Beihai Tianhui Law Firm. From 2000 to 2002, he founded Beihai Haozhan Law Firm and acted as its director. From 2002 to May 2006, he founded Guangxi Shengding Law Firm, a directly administered law firm in Nanning, and served as its director. Since June 2006, he has been a partner of Beijing Dingye (Nanning) Law Firm and has served as Secretary of the Party Branch of the firm to date. In 2001, he obtained the title of Intermediate Lawyer and was honored as a “People-Satisfied Lawyer of 2000”. He has been appointed as an arbitrator of the Beihai Arbitration Commission and the Beihai International Court of Arbitration since 2005, and as an arbitrator of the Nanning Arbitration Commission and the Nanning International Court of Arbitration since 2009. He is currently a Standing Director of the Guangxi Economic Law Society. Since 2021, he has served as an external director of Beibu Gulf International Port Group Co., Ltd. In 2022, he obtained the Practical Compliance Officer Certificate for Compliance Management Systems issued by BSI.

Mr. Zhang Yan has successfully handled a large number of major and influential cases, including:

• Asset acquisition and lease contract dispute between Sinopec Guangxi Company and PetroChina Southwest Marketing Branch;

• International trade arbitration case between an agricultural company and Germany Far East Trading Company;

• Collective litigation by seafarers against a shipping company over average and salvage compensation;

• Asset recovery case for China Huarong Asset Management Corporation;

• Customs clearance case for MOATECH Co., Ltd. of the Republic of Korea;

• Construction and installation contract dispute regarding the Lam Dong Coal Mine in Vietnam between a Guangxi group company and a Jinan company;

• Equipment sales dispute in relation to a Kenya project in Africa between a Guangxi group company and China National Machinery First Construction Corporation;

• Insurance claim dispute between PICC and its clients;

• Construction contract dispute between a Guangxi real estate development company and Guangxi Construction Engineering Group;

• Mortgage recovery dispute between a Guangxi real estate development company and property buyers;

• Lease contract dispute between a Guangxi property service company, a Guangxi tennis club and a Nanning sports development company.

He has also successfully handled high-impact criminal cases, including a case involving suspected export tax fraud in the import and export sector of the Guangxi foreign trade system and a case involving illegal pyramid selling by a company.

In all the above cases, he effectively safeguarded the legitimate rights and interests of his clients, won their full recognition and achieved outstanding results.

He has provided long-term legal services to numerous state-owned entities, including the Guangxi Branch of the People’s Bank of China, Sinopec Guangxi Company, China Resources Nanning Land Development Co., Ltd., the Civil Aviation Company and Water Affairs Company of Beibu Gulf Investment Group, and the First Installation Company of Guangxi Construction Engineering Group.
